Cleaning Month - Carpet Spots

Today is carpet spots day - I coordinated this with vacuum day so that you can do the two at the same time - well sort of....
I use Basic H2 to spot clean my carpet - if the stain is just a little bit of dirt, I'll spray my degreaser formulation of the H2 on it, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe clean with a damp rag.  Sometimes I'll even use a Basic H2 Organic Super Cleaning Wipe on a little carpet stain - how's that for convenient?

For the really tough stains, I use the Basic H2 straight out of the bottle as concentrate.

I squirt just a little bit on the stain, work it in with a damp rag and let it sit for 15-30 minutes.  Then I rinse the area with a damp rag and let dry.  Vacuum the spot up and it's gone!  What have I removed from light gray carpet with Basic H2?  crayon, paint, marker, glue, dog stains, dirt. . . . .
No smell, it's non-toxic, safe, and economical.

How do you clean your carpet stains - any tips?

  1. Does the Basic H2 work for red spots on carpets?

  2. It has removed red marker and crayon for me - it depends on what it is and how long it's been there.....I'd guess that it would probably remove it.

  3. We were on vacation last week so I am trying to two each day. I know I don't *have* to, but I would like to try to cover the whole challenge. I was glad this was an easy one for me. I steam cleaned after Christmas dinner so the carpet was pretty good. There were already a few spots in the living room near the front door, so I took care of those. I am going to watch that area and see if maybe a rug would be a better idea.

    Thanks again for the motivation,
    Michelle M.

  4. Dab, never rub the carpet. Rubbing just spreads the dirt around, dabbing will soak up the dirty cleaner into your rag and not just spread it around. My grandma taught me that trick! :)

  5. I use Tuff Stuff from a autobody shop that they use to clean car carpets, gets the stain right out!
Stop by I have an award for you, although I don't comment at times I do love your tips, right now I'm doing my bedroom closet!

  7. I've been thinking about trying out your cleaning supplies. My carpet definitely needs help since my little guy is crawling everywhere and leaving random spitup spots places. :) I just haven't found anything that works well.

  8. I am wondering if you have a calendar of cleaning for every month of the year that we can buy all ready instead of one at a time?

  9. Beck's-
The Cleaning Kit (in my Etsy shop) is a "calendar" for the year - I just emailed you too :)

  10. Cleaning stains with H2 is very effective. Most people use Bicarb soda for deep stains, but sometimes it gets into paste, if the stain is not dry enough. You have found a very effective method. Congratulations! :) I will certainly check your calendar and keep on reading your blog.

  11. I used to clean our living room carpets with stuff off the shelf - vinegar, baking soda, and stuff like that. They're pretty effective on light stains, but for the ones that really penetrated through the carpet fabric, I call the carpet cleaning company. No hesitations! Buffalo Grove has this company that really gets the job done. But for the spot cleaning, a little cleanser (commercial or homemade) will do the trick for me.
