Here we are at the FINAL week of Cleaning Month - If you are still with me and participating, your house is cleaner and hopefully you're working your way through a cleaning routine. This week we're playing for an Everything Kit for one reader - follow, friend, tweet, comment, blog about the event - every comment entered Monday through Friday is entered to win an Everything Kit!
And today, we're going to clean out/organize our freezers.
Much like the refrigerator clean out from Friday, we're going to:
throw away anything old or expired
take everything out -this is my before (not too bad because I do this with my Cleaning Kit schedule)
wipe down the inside of the freezer if necessary (this can become a mess with too much water) make sure that you are using something non-toxic, Basic H2, because this comes in contact with your food
wash drawers, bins, shelves in warm, soapy water - dry completely
put everything back
save time looking for things by grouping like food items together
I use this basket drawer for baking items
tomato sauces and tortillas on this shelf
breads and waffles on this shelf
fruits + veggies and starches + chicken in these baskets
the clean and organized after
any freezer clean-out tips?
Can't wait to get started on my freezer!! I already have everything organized on the shelves...it makes it so much easier to find things.

My freezers are in serious need of some TLC! I always intend to clean them out then get sidetracked. And, I'm afraid to post before pics!!!
ReplyDeleteHi I just found you through your comment on houseofhepworths.com. I need this encouragement to get organized as we moved a month ago! I was trolling for your powder room/edgecomb gray BM paint color. Could you post the link? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to finish all of this! My house looks better than it has in YEARS. And now I have more things to work on after January is over.
ReplyDeleteAnd I follow on Facebook!
ReplyDeleteI always put my meat on the bottom shelf. That way, if anything happens to go wrong with the freezeror the power goes out, the juices won't drip onto anything else.
ReplyDeletehi Lita - here's the paint color link - I have a post dedicated to it in February:

We just got a FoodSaver for Christmas and our freezer is way more organized now! All my freezer meals go into a foodsaver bag and they take less room in my freezer.
ReplyDeleteI have a freezer in the garage and in the house...I cleand mine out to find half bag of frozen veggies, half bag fries, a few chicken nugget, a few fish sticks, a few pizza bites...ect. I placed them all on one shelf and it became the SNACK SHELF...we finished up the odds and ends in a week of after school snacks!

I follow your blog and love your printables!
ReplyDeleteI just found your block, and I'm so excited! I wish I would have found it last week to get the 20% off though! I just missed it! I'm a list/calendar crazed girl. My family's world would fall apart without the order and security it brings. I love your printables, and look forward to stealing a few minutes when I can sit and enjoy perusing through them on etsy!

okay...make that blog rather than block! Hard to type with a two year old "helping"! :)
ReplyDeleteThe code is still active....if you are interested :)
ReplyDeleteBetween traveling and planning my daughter's second birthday party, I haven't been able to keep up with all of the "challenges" as much as I've wanted to. But I've written the ones I missed on my calendar throughout next month. Hopefully I'll be feeling as fresh as all the others next month!

I have been inspired by your posts - my husband is more the "cleaner/organizer" and I am more along the lines of the "messy" so I can always use the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI've also added you to my blog as one that I follow - good to share the inspiration with others!
ReplyDeletePerhaps I'll post some pictures of my own cleaning days triumphs down the line as I get more into it. So far, I've done two drawers and my desk. Which isn't much for getting decluttered, BUT I've also managed to get our family into a better nightly routine so we start each day on a cleaner, more stress-free note; important when you home school three children and have a two-year-old on board as well as a 5th on the way! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously so thrilled I found your blog! I've been getting into such a cleaning routine that I feel great about the way my home is looking and feeling! Thank you! And my freezer is looking wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower of your blog! And I really do love it! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm new here and loving it! I like your cleaning schedule; much easier to implement than others I've tried. Will be following from now on!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm now following you on Twitter, too! :)
ReplyDeleteI printed your Jan. cleaning chart (thank you!) and am following along, though am a little behind. I have been following your blog for a while now and love it!

I am so glad I found your website. This is our first year as a family of four, and I feel so overwhelmed by it all. You are giving me hope that I can teach my boys a better way.

I follow your blog and couldn't be more thankful for cleaning month! It helps me to get started for the day when I read the post.
ReplyDeleteIt was my son's birthday today, and I HAD to clean the laundry room for a showing. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in the freezer on another day.
ReplyDeleteInteresting blog. It would be great if you can provide more details about it. Thanks you.
