Cleaning Month - Window Treatments - Day 2

How did your first day of window treatments go?   Annoying like mine?  Today we're still going to tackle window treatments - I'm working on the second floor today.

Today's task is very dependent on what type of window treatment you have, but regardless you'll probably need to get out your vacuum cleaner and hose attachment.  If you have a cool little tool like this one, even better.

If you don't have window blinds or window treatments, take the day off, dust your house, or come to my house and help me.  Those of us that have them, we're going to be tackling the most annoying thing to clean (in my opinion).  There are  many ways to clean window blinds.  If you have metal blinds, you can take them down and spray them off in your bathtub.  Lay them flat on a towel (on the floor) to dry.  My blinds are faux wood so I can't do that - I'll be wiping them off one by one.   To make this a bit easier, I'm going to start the process with my vacuum cleaner and the cool attachment pictured above.  Start at the top of your window treatments and move down to the bottom - always clean like this.  Once I have them vacuumed, I'm going to take a wet microfiber towel, some Basic H2 and go to town wiping each one individually.  You could  use wipes too.  Anyone have a tried and true blind cleaning method to share?
Don't forget about today's daily tasks - Today is vacuum day(if you need more details on today's daily tasks, go here):

•SWEEP FLOORS
•WIPE COUNTERS
•LAUNDRY
•CLUTTER

Doing okay?  Keeping up?  Keep up the good work and don't worry if you are a little behind, you'll catch up!

Mine actually went quickly. I finished yesterday. Maybe this is completely cheating, but I closed the blinds and swished a duster over them to get the dust off. Then I used a wipe to spot clean any areas that needed a little extra attention. I'm sure it wasn't as good of a job as you do, but they still look nice and clean. :) Today I am going to get any dust off the curtains. Thanks for this. It has really pushed and inspired me to clean things I would not have thought to clean before.

  3. To clean my blinds, I put a cotton sock over my hand, spray a little windex or cleaner on the sock, and wipe each individual blind slat with my socked hand. That way I am getting the underside too. Dusting with a sock on your hand actually makes a lot of jobs easier!
P.S. I can't wait for my Basic H2 to arrive in the mail!

  6. That's a great idea, Kristen. My way didn't really get the underside. My house is relatively new, so they weren't bad anyway. I will have to try the sock method when they get dustier.

  7. Another way, is to take them down and you can hose them off outside, or if you have a sprayer you can do it yyour bath tub. I have vertical blinds that I can't take down, and the attachments on my vacuum don't work, so I will be doing each individually too.

  8. I finished the window treatments yesterday. With the ones that I had to take down to throw in the wash, I went ahead and cleaned the windows. So I only have a few to do today.
