Finding a Cleaning Routine that Works for You

Finding a cleaning routine that can work for you and your family's schedule may sound or seem like an impossible task.  I have a few simple ways and a step-by-step printable (found here) that can take you from chaos to cleaning routine in minutes.  Ready to get started?
  • corral your cleaning supplies - put your supplies in a caddy or place them where you'll use them (in a bathroom or kitchen cabinet)
  • think of a couple multitasking moments - when the kids are taking a bath, clean the bathroom
  • list all of your everyday tasks - wipe down counters, make beds, sweep floors, one load of laundry....
  • list weekly tasks that need to be done - vacuum, wash floors, clean bathrooms....
  • assign tasks to days of the week - keep in mind your schedule
Only you know your schedule and cleaning 'personality'.  I clean a little bit every day -I choose one major task (vacuum, wash floors...) each day of the week so I only spend 15-30 minutes a day cleaning.  Maybe you work Monday-Thursday and do most of your cleaning on Friday.  Or maybe you work 50 hours a week and just need to figure out a better way to streamline your cleaning so you aren't cleaning all weekend.  I encourage you to come up with a plan, try it and see how it works.  Change what needs to be changed and keep working with it until it works for YOU.  And by all means, feed the family and play with your kiddos instead of getting your vacuuming done!

If you are too busy (or just don't want to come up with your own cleaning routine), check out The Cleaning Kit and the March Cleaning Schedule in the Clean Mama Printables Etsy shop.  Simple, straightforward, and cute.

I'd love to hear your cleaning and homekeeping multi-tasking ideas in the comments section!

  2. You have good strategy. Cleaning everyday a small area is better than cleaning once a month the whole house. Regards.

  3. I was finally motivated to start a cleaning schedule even though I've always thought (since I'm a pretty random person) that I wouldn't like it. It's only the third day, but I'm loving it! I don't feel like there's a ton of vague tasks out there bothering me, because I planned it all out before hand, so I just do what I have on my calendar and it feels good! I used to just do huge marathon cleaning sessions once a week because I couldn't stand having only part of my house clean at a time. But with four kids, it was getting harder and harder to have the time to clean the whole house at one time! So this cleaning schedule idea is a lifesaver. Thanks for the inspiration! :) Also---I love Shaklee products like Basic H2 and Scour Off!! :)
