Sounds silly, but I think it makes a big difference in the atmosphere of a home. Around dinner time, I like to turn on a couple small lamps instead of overhead lighting - it visually calms the space down a bit. And helps ease us into the evening.
These lamps are in the entryway and living room, so they are across from each other.
Notice the minimalistic approach to accessories (toddler-proof) - what do you have on your end and entryway tables? I need a little homey goodness on them.
Right now, I have my felt pumpkins on my coffee table, that way if my 20 month old wants to tough its okay... And no fear of breaking!
ReplyDeleteHere's how I made them: Super easy and no sewing!

On our shelf in the front entry is a bowl for our keys. The rest of the surfaces - usually a spattering of toys these days! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the atmosphere of lamps in my home. I have three lamps on timers, one in the entryway, living room and family room. They come on everyday at the same time and automatically turn off at bedtime. I wish I had done this many years ago. As the seasons change, the times need to be adjusted as it becomes dark earlier in the winter. I always enjoy your blog!
ReplyDeleteThe timers are genius Aleane! I'm going to grab some on my next trip to the home improvement store. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one with just a lamp on my end tables. Little hands like to carry things off, so I just leave them bare for this stage.
ReplyDeleteEeek! My end tables are cluttered with books and magazines. Must clean them now that I saw yours :) I rarely turn the lamps on and now I am motivated to declutter and use them.
ReplyDeleteThank you!

I love to have my living room lamp on in the evening. It's sort of in the middle of the downstairs. It has such a nicer, softer light than the overhead lights over the bar that I used to keep on. Now that I don't have little ones around, it's nice to have some fall decor on my tables :)
