Say NO to Fragrance - My Favorite Cleaning Find

I make sure that I don't use cleaning products that have fragrance in them (non-toxic cleaning supplies with no fragrance listed are the best).  Did you know that ninety-five percent of chemicals that are used in fragrances are synthetic (man-made), petroleum based compounds?  In a new study by University of WA researchers found that there are about one hundred different VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).  VOCs have been found to damage and disrupt your respiratory, neurological, or reproductive systems and/or cause cancer.  The worst fragrances that you can find in household cleaning supplies are pine, orange, and lemon.  All the scents that we associate with "clean", right?  If you aren't already using non-toxic cleaning supplies and need to do a little more research on the subject before you believe me, check this out on my Shaklee website.   Go through all the slide shows - they are so informative!

To be perfectly honest with you, the hardest thing for me when it came to switching over to Shaklee products was that they are mostly unscented.  I used to love the "clean" smell of conventional cleaning products.  But when I was pregnant with my first and all of a sudden wasn't supposed to clean anything because of the toxic smell, I started to question what I was doing.  Isn't it interesting that we're not supposed to "poison" an itty-bitty baby tucked inside of us, but other children and adults aren't vulnerable?  So I tried EVERY cleaning product at the big name natural foods store.  They didn't work the way I wanted, some smelled nice and others didn't.  I wasn't sold.  I started to look around on the Internet and came across Shaklee.  But I couldn't go to the store to buy it (or smell it).  I kept looking.  Still nothing REALLY worked.  I came back to Shaklee and a kind distributor that was willing to walk me through products and assured me that everything was 100% guaranteed.  I was still concerned that if it didn't smell clean, I wasn't going to like it.  I tried it and fell in love - (yes, a clean freak is allowed to fall in love with cleaning products).

Basic H2 falls into the Find and Fragrance category of this week's theme - it's my favorite cleaning find ever and it doesn't have fragrance in it.  I love hearing the stories from my customers of all the things Basic H2 (an organic, non-toxic cleaner) got out for them - permanent marker off of a couch, crayons off the walls, grass stains.....  Do you have a Basic H2 story?  Want to share it with us in the comments section?  I'd love to hear about any Shaklee products that you have tried that surprised you with their all-natural, scent-free cleaning power.

(Later this week, I'm going to be sharing some recipes with *free* printables for some all-natural cleaning products - of course these are recipes for things that Shaklee doesn't make).

  1. I used Basic H2 to get ball point pen out of jeans that had already been washed and dryed without any treatment. I used a little full strength, rubbed it in, and hoped for the best. I love that stuff!
