DONE! English Muffin Toasting Bread and Whole Wheat Bread

How can a busy mom simplify homemade bread?  By making her own bread mixes.  Today I'd like to share with you some quick tips for making bread mixes so I have a quick shortcut to making bread later.  This is about a 10 minute process that makes it so much easier to mix up a couple loaves of yummy bread.  Here's how I do it:

1. Start with great recipes - here are two that I LOVE:

English Muffin Toasting Bread - this one only needs one rise in the pan - super easy!

Oatmeal Sandwich Bread - I use white-whole wheat flour and eliminate the bread improver.

2.  DOUBLE/TRIPLE the recipe - if I'm going to bake bread, I always make sure that I make at least two loaves so I can toss one in the freezer.

3.  Label plastic zip-top bags with what kind of bread mix you've made and what wet ingredients are necessary to complete the mix.

4.  Place bag in large container to hold the bag open for ingredients.

5.  As long as you have baking ingredients out, make a couple different batches of bread.

6.  Press air out of bag and seal.

7.  Freeze for later.

  1. What a great idea to measure out the ingredients & freeze them for later! Definitely will be using this idea in the future.

  2. Thank you for sharing this. I love everything you post about! Reminds me of when i used to be organized. The oat bread really looks good, and I look forward to successfully baking bread for the first time :)

  3. Yum! I usually buy english muffin bread from Trader Joe's. (we also use it to make quick pizzas at lunchtime). Thanks for the link - I have never visited King Arthur's site. I love their flours. Okay, a couple of questions for you: do you add the yeast to the mix before freezing? Do you bake your bread in the oven or do you use a bread machine? Thanks.

  4. Karen-

Check the recipe that you want to use - if it calls for everything to be mixed together without "proofing" the yeast, I add the yeast to the freezer bag, otherwise I wait until I am ready to bake.

I have never tried a bread recipe that I didn't like from KAF - tends to be fool proof.

I bake my bread primarily in the oven :)
