My preschooler and I have been talking about different things we want to do this summer. I wanted to turn our list into a visual representation of what we want the summer to look like. Preschoolers love to see accomplishment and have things to look forward to - at least mine do! I came up with this idea as a way to "choose" activities for the summer. Most activities are free, some cost a little bit, but the idea is to have a bucket of ideas - and to do every single one before Labor Day. Some will be used as a reward and others will go into the "What are we going to do today?" category. Here's how we made our Summer Fun Container.
I typed out a summer fun list:
Cut each event into strips:
We covered another Trader Joe's coffee container with summery scrapbook paper, glue, stickers, and paper ribbon.
We used border stickers to cover the fronts and backs of clothespins.
We put the clothespins in the container with the strips of paper.
We'll choose activities between Memorial Day and Labor Day and hopefully at the end of the summer, our Summer Fun Container will look like this:
Have you started making plans for the summer?
I love this idea. I have a little variation though. I'm thinking I'm going to put the names of the activities on the actual clothespin, and then when we do the activity, ill take pictures, and hang them up on some twine with the corresponding clothespin. It's like a timeline of our fun summer activities. Maybe in my sons room so he can remember how fun our summer was. YAY! I'm gonna get started right now!!!! thank you for inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteI love this! What a fun idea! :)

We made a list too! I plan to make it more like subway art and then cross them off as we do them.
ReplyDeleteSuper fun idea!
ReplyDeleteI just thought I should tell you- visiting your blog is a cleaning hazard! :) I never get away in less than 30 minutes...too many fun ideas and links! (I was just reading about your floor cleaning tools, as I really need something other than a mop bucket.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, just thought you should know you'll be blamed for my laundry pile up today. :)

I remember this from last year! Crazy how time flies and here we are planning for another summer. Thanks for mentioning using some activities as a reward. I'll definitely be using that to my advantage.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of cutting the list into strips. I'm going to scrapbook the ones we've done at the end of summer and include a mini picture of all the ones I get a picture of.
This is such a cute idea! I think I will share it with my daughter for the girls.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I love having the ideas out so as my kids say they're bored I can remind them they're not!
ReplyDeleteHope it's okay - I used this for inspiration for my newest project! thanks so much!

What a great way to organize our summer goals and wishes!! Thanks so much for the printable. I featured you on my blog with other great Summer ideas: http://kirstikoo.blogspot.com/2011/06/best-summertime-activities-printables.html
ReplyDeleteCome say hi and thanks again for sharing!
I am curious to know what "Send a picture" means. I am going to have a couple of boys during the week along with my own sons. I think this will be a great way to pick an activity for the day. Maybe put the clothes pins in the can have them pull it out and BAM that is what we are doing. Then I will combine the idea from Caitlin above and post pictures for the moms to see when they pick up their kiddos. Hmmm...I've got some thinking to do :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea!
Delete"Send a Picture" means to draw and/or take a picture to send to great-grandparents and grandparents, and cousins that live a ways away.
