Today's "ask Clean Mama" is brought to you by McMom who asked:
Would love to get your suggestions for green cleaning in the bathroom. I want to get things clean, but seems if you look at the store, the answer is usually to cover everything in the harshest, smelliest chemicals imaginable.
Great question! Green cleaning in the bathroom is a hard concept to grasp because we want to make sure that we are killing/disinfecting all those icky germs and it seems like only the toxic chemical cleaners will do a good job of killing the germs.
I have spent the last 5+ years trying out just about every natural/green cleaner available and have a few favorites.
First of all, I have a few favorite tools for cleaning the bathrooms:
microfiber cloths (they don't streak, and clean up easily)
scrub brushes (grout, corners and crevices)
magic erasers (glass shower doors and tubs)
microfiber window/glass cloths (mirrors)
And my favorite green cleaners that kill germs and really clean the bathroom:
Germ-Off Wipes - counters, toilets
Black + Decker steam mop - floors
Mrs. Jones' Soapbox Soft Cleaning Scrub - bathtubs, tile and shower
Basic H2 - window formulation - mirrors
Hydrogen peroxide - I occasionally use this to clean and whiten icky grout
If you are looking to clean green and kill germs, find a couple great products that work for you, in your bathroom(s) - look for non-toxic ingredients, essential oils vs. artificial fragrance, and make sure that you READ the labels. Natural homemade formulations are great too. If it has to be locked up in a cabinet, not only is it harmful to your kids, it's harmful to whoever cleans the bathroom.
How about you, do you have any favorite green cleaning tips to share?
