I'm not into artificial scents, so I don't have plug-in air fresheners or room sprays, but I do make a little simmering air freshener from time to time. The ingredients are usually dependent on what I have on hand and what I feel like smelling for the day. This is a perfect homey goodness "project" because it warms the smell of the house up and gives that inviting scent of home cooking.
This can be done in a mini crockpot or a pan on the stove on very low heat (watch for the water to evaporate and add more as needed).
Here are some ingredients that you can use:
- water (at least 4 cups)
- 3+ cinnamon sticks
- whole or powdered nutmeg
- 10-12 whole cloves or powdered cloves
- dash of vanilla extract
- orange and /or lemon peel
Wow, must be fabulous, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to do this growing up. Except she would stick whole cloves all around a whole orange and put it in the pot. It always reminds me of Christmas! Mmm!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so yummy! Do you just leave the heat on all day until it stops smelling? Im so trying this!
ReplyDeleteI've done that at Christmastime and love it!
ReplyDeleteI love this combination too -Itmakes your home smell like you have been baking all day :-)
ReplyDeleteooohh! This sounds just perfect! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt is good to have fresh air and aromatic air in the room. The air that we breathe also sets the mood for the day so it should be pure and clean and fragrant.
