Day 3

Happy Monday - Happy Cleaning Routine!  So if you have been here for the last couple days, you'll see that I do a few things every.single.day.  (If you're new here, make sure you grab this week's cleaning schedule - it'll make it a little more fun to check off your accomplishments.)

It's what keeps our home functioning and it definitely keeps the endless clutter and little messes away.  Then every day of the week I tackle one area and clean it really well.  Monday is Bathrooms Day.  I have my bathroom cleaning down to a "science" and move through the bathrooms as quickly as possible.

If you're curious as to how I clean 4 bathrooms in 15-20 minutes, here's how:

•get all supplies in order (all-purpose cleaner, window cleaner, toilet brush, microfiber window cloth and 4 cotton cleaning rags (one for each bathroom) and a microfiber cleaning cloth for bathtubs and showers.)
•go into first bathroom and spray mirror with window cleaner - wipe clean with microfiber window cloth (this might not seem like a necessary cleaning tool, but seriously it is amazing - streak free windows and mirrors every.single.time.)
•clean toilet with toilet brush and spray down sink, toilet and tub/shower with disinfectant
•I leave one rag in the bathroom - I don't wipe down the bathroom right away - I let the disinfectant sit for ten minutes to completely clean and disinfect
•move on to the next bathroom and repeat (mirror, toilet, spray down everything)
•once I've done this in all the bathrooms, I go back to bathroom #1 and quickly wipe down everything - I wipe the toilet last (I use a new cotton rag in each bathroom to avoid any cross-contamination)
•I like to use a microfiber cleaning cloth for my bathtubs and showers - it gets rid of any soap scum and any water marks with a quick wipe

Clean Bathrooms
(see above - another way I save time with the bathrooms is that I wash the bathroom floors on my floor washing day)
Sweep Floors
(quick sweep of any hard floors that need it - I concentrate on my kitchen)
Wipe counters
wipe down kitchen counters, make sure sink is clean and dishes are in/out of dishwasher)
Clutter
(quick declutter of any areas that need it - mail, toys, shoes, clothes, etc.
Laundry
(do at least one load every single day)

So that's Mondays - clean what you can, when you can - don't worry if you don't have time to complete the tasks for today - just get started.  By the end of the month, you'll have a great routine going.

  2. My husband thinks I'm nuts, I woke up excited to wash a load of whites. Which means sheets, socks and undershirts and and towels.... I use white sheets and towels so I can condense those 3 loads into one load. And since I did a load a day over the weekend, my huge pile of laundry is very small and laundry day has me only having to do our whites... I do hope it continues to be this fun and easy (and strangely enough, I love to clean the bathrooms, lol!!!!)

  5. I great, cheap cleaner is bleach. I have a spray bottle in each of my bathrooms filled with 1/2 bleach and 1/2 water. Any sign of mildew I spray the shower and it is gone! No scrubbing!

  6. I ran across this from a post on Pinterest and so glad I did! I love the simplicity here. I have tried routines countless times but I end up falling back on my normal lack of routine but this seems easy enough and I just may be able to follow through with it!

  7. Just a quick question: What kind of cloth do you use to clean/wipe the toilets down? I have four toilets to clean... and a little boy with not-so-great-aim (I won't mention the husband!). I feel like I go through sponges like crazy to keep from cross-contaminating. Do you have any suggestions for what to use and how to clean them?

    Thanks!

  8. Ack - every time you start a new challenge, I'm always in the middle of something medical related & can't take part! This time I'm having surgery on Wednesday. But one of these days....

Maybe you could modify the routine just a bit on account of my wheelchair though? ::laugh::

  9. Cecilia-
I spray them good with the disinfectant (or use Germ Off wipes) and then use a microfiber cloth (you can find them in the automotive section at Target). I start at the lid and work my way to the ickiest parts. Then I wash them on the sterilize cycle on my washing machine.

    Shari-
I'd come and clean for you if I could :) Blessings to you on your surgery Wednesday!

  10. I'd love to know what spray cleaner you use. I am trying to minimize my cleaning products, and my girls do clean as well. I am experimenting with Essential Oils/Water which disinfect for vanities and toilets. But, they don't give a good enough clean in the tubs or tile showers.

    Ideas? Thanks!

  11. I too would love to know what disinfectant you spray in your bathroom. Do you make your own bleach solution, or use a brand name? Do tell!

  12. Stacey + Samantha-
For disinfecting, I use Shaklee's Germ Off Wipes and Basic G (germicide). When disinfecting, I use as non-toxic and natural products as possible.
    Both products are found here:

    Hope this helps!

  13. What's the difference between basic H and basic G? My aunt LOVES basic H and uses it all the time.

  14. Basic H2 is non-toxic and organic, but it doesn't kill germs, it's an awesome cleaner. Basic G is a germicide and kills germs - I use Basic G in the bathrooms and after having raw meat or chicken in the kitchen.
    Hope this helps!
