How Does Your Garden Grow?

Last summer was our first summer in our home.  There were these weird bushes on the side of the house with little red berries.  We couldn't figure out if they were poisonous, edible, or decorative so we did a little internet research to try to determine what in the world they were.  After the birds ate them all up last summer, we figured out that they were red currants.

I looked around for some recipes and decided that this summer we'd use them.  So we picked and picked and picked and made two big batches of red currant jam.  I didn't know if we'd like it, but it tastes like sour cherry jam.  Yum!

What do you grow and eat from your gardens?  We're growing currants (by default), a ton of herbs, and cherry tomatoes.  Next summer I think we're going to go for the big veggie garden, but this summer I'm keeping it simple.

  1. Hi, visiting from NFF today and already a follower! We have two gardens 6x8 gardens and grow, corn, leaf lettuce, green beans, green peppers, limas, jalapeno peppers, grape tomatoes, roma tomatoes, better boy tomatoes, zuchini, basil, parsley, rosemary and trying to grow brocolli but the bugs seem to really like that one. We hope to plant blueberries sometime too-

How fun to have red currants, I love growing unusual or expensive items at home.
