Painted Chairs

I have two mismatched kid chairs that I want to match - what to do?  Well, paint them of course!   What color?  Well, initially I was going to paint the rocker pink and the small chair blue or white.  But then I decided to not put them in the kids' rooms and to put them in our "formal" (it's not) living room.  The kidlets can use some seating at the coffee table/game and puzzle table so I needed to come up with a new color plan.  Then my 5+ years of working at Pottery Barn voice chimed in "paint them black, black anchors everything".  Perfect!  I decided to paint them black and make them work with the grown up furniture and seating.

I had a little black spray paint leftover from this project, so I used that as my "primer".  Then I painted them with this wonderful paint.  The can says that it creates a super smooth and high lustre finish  - and it does!
Here are my cutie-pa-tootie chairs before:
And after:
I really like how you can see the grain of the oak in the little chair.  That little chair is a kindergarten classroom chair from where I went to kindergarten - fun, huh?  I'm going to add either an initial or a number on each one later this week  (any opinions?).  Next week I'll show you that AND  how I use a coffee table to store kids' games and puzzles (if you've been reading this blog for longer than a month or so, you know that I try to cleverly hide store toys and games. As usual, I'm linking this up to my favorite linky parties, go check them out!

  1. These came out really nice. I was painting chairs this weekend myself and can fully appreciate the process now. Thinking I should've used spraypaint!

  4. Your chairs look fantastic. Thanks for the tip on the spray paint. I have a set of student chairs (adult size) that I've been dying to paint. After seeing yours I may just have to tackle them. Love that yours came from your kindergarten class.
